Summer Pours On the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail offers a detailed visit from the blogging team of Warren Richard and Paul Armstrong. They had the opportunity to tour the area on July 11/12, 2009 and reported on the treasures to be found. They posted lots of photos and had a great time exploring Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay Country from the wine aficionado perspective. Their mission is to sip and savor from wineries all over Virginia and as our trail has expanded they are doing their best to keep up. Thanks for the coverage.

Wine tourism and local business leaders gathered at Belle Mount Vineyards for a conference on March 4th. The event was attended by almost 100 people seeking ways to work cooperatively with the wine trail. New relationships developed and the guests were impressed by the dinner with wines currently produced by some of the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail members. The Rappahannock Record represented the local newspaper and covered the story on their website with a picture of Patty Held, a guest speaker on winery marketing. The conference was a great success and many people want to become involved in the next step. A wine trail passport program and a multitude of events are now on the schedule.

Thanks go out to Bay Etching and Imprinting of Lively for helping produce the event and for the wonderful demonstration on the taste differences in wine glasses.

While arriving at RIC Richmond International Airport recently I was greeted by an invitation to vineyard living at New Kent Vineyards. The boarding gate ramp welcomes you to wine country living here in Virginia. New Kent Winery is encouraging you to make your home among the vineyards, winery and their golf course here in New Kent County. Scenic and tasteful beauty - who could ask for more? We already know there is a lot going on at New Kent and now many people are starting to call it home. Vineyard living is a lifestyle. This year the Chamber of Commerce is holding their first wine festival. A taste of New Kent is the place to be on May 16th, 2009.

Call 1-866-vineyards or see website for information on the new project between Richmond and Williamsburg.

In January of 2009 Terry and Kathy Sullivan, of WineTrailTraveler.com, enjoyed a visit to the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail to review the new and upcoming wineries of the region. By touring the area in the mid-winter season they were able to enjoy the slower pace and have great interaction with the owners of the wineries. A preview was provided by Steve Madey of The Hague Winery, while discussing an opening scheduled for May. The other wineries are generally open all year, but not necessarily every day. Thanks to Terry & Kathy for providing insights into what the visitor can expect on the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail. See the wine trail traveler website for a virtual tour.

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm Belle Mount Vineyards, Warsaw, VA

The Northern Neck Tourism Council will sponsor a wine-related conference to help regional businesses develop agri-tourism relationships with the regional wine trail. A panel of speakers will provide an update on wine tourism and present various perspectives on the industry. Wines from the Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail will be featured in tastings and a wine pairing dinner along with a special wine glass demonstration by Arthur Roberts of Bay Etching & Imprinting.

The conference will begin with a social hour in a meet and greet format. Attendees will have the chance to learn about the people behind the many tourism-related organizations in the area. This will also be an opportunity to view displays and distribute important handouts.

Patty Held, a wine tourism professional, will provide a presentation on the success of wine tourism in Hermann MO and Amy Ciarametaro, from the Virginia Wine Marketing Board, will discuss the potential to capitalize on wine tourism in Virginia. Albert Pollard, Delegate, will speak on the positive effects of tourism and Senator Richard Stuart will discuss the relationship of tourism to economic development.

With networking opportunities and increased industry awareness the event appeals to a broad range of local businesses. Tourism dollars touch everyone in the region and special invitations will be sent to local retail merchants, hotels, B&B’s, restaurants, resorts, tourism commissions, government representatives, Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Supervisors and local media.

The evening will conclude with an announcement by George Beckett of the Northern Neck Tourism Council on the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Virginia is for Lovers campaign and the commemorative wine promotion. George will also help coordinate the partnering of regional groups and associations with the tourism efforts.

Interested in attending the event? For cost and reservations contact Belle Mount Vineyards at 804-333-4700 or email Catherine Petrie
